Jana Cosgrove is President of Entercom Radio Sales at Katz Media Group in New York. Jana brought three of the most respected broadcasters and her entire sales team over, to join the Katz Radio Group in 2008. Her fearless leadership, hands on approach, and ability to drive results have defined her. Jana is a mentor to many on her team and within the organization.
How has working at Katz impacted your career?

Katz challenges me to continue learning about what is happening in the industry as it relates to how advertisers are connecting to consumers. I continue to learn how important it is to not only understand Radio and the assets that our broadcasters but also what is happening in the digital space, social media, experiential and video. Being an expert with an extensive knowledge basis makes us more valuable to our customers |
What advice would you give women entering the workforce now?

Ask questions....don’t be afraid to admit that you don’t have the answers....but if you don’t know the answer find the subject matter expert so you can learn and answer their question or connect the client with the SME. Work hard and work smart....at 5pm on a Friday, you want your customer to know that you are the one to call and the one that can get it done for them |

I wanted to sing on Broadway...I studied voice in college and intended to get my degree in musical theatre. The closest I got to working on Broadway was 125 West 55th Street in NY. Ask Mark Gray and Christine Travaglini if I can sing |
Who or what is inspiring to you?

Inspirational is my Dad. He spent over 30 years selling air time for Radio. He worked station side and also in the rep business. Most of his career was with CBS. What inspires me most about my Dad is he was the same at work as he was at home. I have met so many people who worked with him use words like gentleman, kind, available, honest, generous and fair. I am tougher than Dad in my directness but I hold the same values....investing in people and hold integrity above all else. |
What attribute or skill has helped you the most in your career?

Tenacity, hard work and perseverance. I am not a natural salesperson but I have always worked hard, tried to be knowledgeable and focused on delivering what I promise. I focus on being direct and honest when I work with my clients and customers. I care deeply about doing a great job...and I think my clients and customers know that |
